The
Iorwerth Rowlands Centre hosts the over 50s Club for a variety of club activities and meetings. The club
was established by Anglesey County Council’s Social Services
Dept., in conjunction with Age Concern Wales in order to develop
the Welsh Assembly‘s Strategy for Older People. The club aims to
promote a more positive image of ageing and create community
opportunities for people over the age of 50.
Membership has
grown rapidly during the last few months, and now stands at a
total of 150. The club aims to serve residents living not only
in Beaumaris, but the whole of the south east region of the
island. Why not come along – learn a new skill, join an exercise
group, or make some new friends? Membership costs £5 pounds per
annum.
The weekly activities include:

Coffee mornings, discussions and afternoon tea

Lifelong Learning courses, such as IT, gardening and modern
languages

Tai Chi exercise classes

Latin American Dancing
-
Talks and presentations on items of local and general interest

Outings
-
Arts and Crafts

Visits to local garden centres
-
Community safety awareness

Healthy Eating workshops

Constituted, and affiliated to Age Concern Wales

Shopping Trips – provides transport to various shops for your
weekly shopping every Friday afternoon - costs
£2 per trip. Transport leaves the Centre at 1.00 pm.

Community Committee

The club has formed a committee comprising of
10 club
members. Representatives of the committee regularly
attend Fforwm Mon. if anyone is interested in
joining the committee and feels they have time on their
hands and the relevant skills needed to assist the club in
its day to day running, then please

us.

The facilities and support is open to everybody over the age
of fifty, from the surrounding areas: Beaumaris, Llanfaes,
Llangoed, Pentraeth, Penmon, Llanddona, Llansadwrn, Llandegfan
and Menai Bridge. Please take the opportunity to make good use
of these facilities.
